One-hour sessions · £30 per workshop · £100 for all four
Upcoming workshops
Each workshop focuses on a different aspect of pregnancy loss and therapeutic practice. Sessions take place live on Microsoft Teams, with places limited to allow time for discussion.
You’ll find full session details and information about the speakers on each workshop’s Eventbrite page.
Self-disclosure when working with pregnancy loss
Wednesday 14 October, 1-2pm
With Julia Bueno
How do we respond when a client asks, “Have you been through this?” This session considers how shared experience can help or obscure understanding, alongside the ethical questions raised by therapist self-disclosure, visible pregnancy and an online presence.

PTSD after pregnancy loss
Thursday 22 October, 6-7pm
With Julianne Boutaleb
A session on recognising post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after pregnancy loss and how it differs from grief, depression or anxiety. We’ll consider the impact on individuals and couples, including relationships and subsequent pregnancies, and how practitioners can support them.

Neurodivergence and pregnancy loss
Tuesday 3 November, 1-2pm
With Trudie Bamford and Martin Roddis
Neurodivergent people’s responses to pregnancy loss can be misunderstood when their distress does not look as others expect. This workshop considers how grief may be expressed and offers practical adjustments to communication and counselling practice.
Beyond the baby we lost
Wednesday 11 November, 1-2pm
With Julia Bueno
How can counsellors listen to each client’s experience without assuming what has been lost? Through experiences including relief or ambivalence after miscarriage and grief following abortion, this session considers how to keep the client’s own account at the centre of support.

What to expect
These workshops offer time to consider questions that arise in counselling practice: how our own experiences influence therapeutic work, how distress can be misunderstood, and how to listen without assuming what pregnancy loss means to a client.
Each session brings a different focus, with opportunities to reflect on your approach and ask questions.
Questions and discussion
We keep attendance numbers limited so there is room to ask questions and discuss the topic.
Resources and certificate
After attending, you’ll receive follow-up resources relating to the session, along with a certificate of attendance.
Why learn with Miscarriage UK?
Miscarriage UK is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to miscarriage, ectopic and molar pregnancy.
For decades, we have supported people affected by pregnancy loss and listened to what they tell us about their experiences. Their accounts of support, misunderstanding and the impact of loss inform our work with professionals.
These workshops bring that understanding together with the therapeutic experience of our guest speakers. They build on the knowledge you already bring to your work, with space to consider questions that arise when supporting people affected by pregnancy loss.
Our Counsellors Directory also helps people find counsellors with relevant experience of pregnancy loss.
